Anke Doerfel-Parker, Solution Architect
I am a full stack developer, meaning I can operate almost any aspect of a program. I have a very strong analytical mind, and I am very good at problem-solving and connecting the dots across different areas of coding and design. I often help people and co-workers detect problems, and I have solid knowledge in all programming languages that we use.
One of the more unusual skills that makes me particular valuable here at QAT Global is that I am a developer, but I also have a visual talent. I am not trained as a UX designer, but I have the ability to look at something and tell what is wrong or what is not working. This is not a common skill among developers, but it allows me to do both- which is not always an easy combination.
I am very passionate about coding and design, and I am also very excited about working with UI experience. I believe the best value I provide for our clients is the user interface. UI is a much more intangible thing- So making the overall experience, and doing the UI correctly for the target audience is very important to me.
When it comes to clients, my goal is that they are satisfied and that they would like to do work with me again. I provide solid work that is presentable, valuable and that meets high standards. Also, like the rest of my team, I like to take ownership and stay honest to customers. So if I see there is a gap in the skill set of the team and I do not have the resources to fill it, then the customer needs to know that. When I feel things are going wrong, I make it a note to the customer and do my best to fulfill their needs.
I have been in this profession for 13 years, and I have been with QAT Global for 12 years. I have stayed this long because of the great people and the great work environment. Everyone at QAT Global is professional, they are reliable, talented, interesting and they all contribute great qualities. The other reason is that the work itself is interesting. I get the opportunity to do a lot of different things, work with many different businesses and industries and with a wide variety of technology. If I were have worked the past 12 years at one of the local companies rather than QAT Global, I would not have remotely as much exposure to different technologies and businesses as I do.
Getting Personal – What to Know About Anke
What do you like about programming?
I find programming to be challenging at both the analytical and the creative level. Problems must be solved using only a specific set of instructions, yet at the same time, those instructions can be used to design almost anything. I enjoy envisioning a process, an application and bringing it alive from virtually nothing. Simply typing into an empty page and running a few tools suddenly allows data to be transmitted, processed and visualized.
What’s something about you that not many people know?
I really like to go on road trips, get away, do a little off-roading.
What are you passionate about personally? What do you really enjoy?
I enjoy the outdoors and hiking. I also really like to crochet little stuffed animals.
What would be impossible for you to give up?
Traveling would be very hard to give up. My family and I like to travel through the Great Plains, anywhere from South Dakota to New Mexico.
Where can we find you when you’re not working?
When not working- I would either be at home with family or on the road.
