LEGACY MODERNIZATION - QAT Genesis

QAT DDM - Table Maintenance

Table maintenance is one of those necessary elements of most applications. However, it is not worth the investment of valuable time and resources to create and maintain unique user interfaces for each table if the same can be accomplished with rapid automation.

DDM stands for “Dynamic Data Maintenance”. It provides automated web interfaces to manage either dynamic or physical application tables using a rich Ajax user interface. QAT DDM is used in the Agility BPM™ product to provide support for complex data structures, and has also been a strategic element of several very successful customer projects at QAT because of its ability to automate user defined data elements.

Dynamic Tables - Dynamic tables are virtual tables (vs. physical database tables). In the case of dynamic tables, DDM stores the data structure as metadata (i.e. using a highly normalized database structure) and provides a modern web interface to maintain that data. Multiple columns can be defined and maintained and it includes support for simple one-to-many relations. In this case, both the storage and the user interface are automated by QAT DDM.

Physical Tables - Physical tables are also supported by providing a modern web interface to maintain the data. In the case of physical tables, QAT DDM only defines the physical data structure to automate the necessary web interface. Data maintenance is provided by data sources, which include dynamic SWL and hand-written processes.

QAT DDM is very useful for rapidly replacing a high percentage of the simple code and providing administrative table maintenance interfaces and related server processes.

Modernization Results

The QAT Genesis modernization process results in applications that have not only been modernized in the traditional sense, but also made more open and agile at the same time. Business and IT are more aligned and far more productive as a team by allowing the business to control the work processes and IT to control the database and system integration.

The introduction of business process automation within the legacy modernization is a powerful solution that gives the business users new flexibility to enhance and change their application without relying on IT for everything. The modernized application suddenly becomes more flexible for the business and the cost of the projects are far easier to justify.
